MANCHESTER TOWNSHIP, YORK COUNTY–Authorities have released the identity of the driver who was shot and killed by a Pennsylvania State Trooper while trying to flee from a traffic stop along Interstate 83 in York County.

According to the York County Coroner’s office, the cause of 25-year-old Rasheem Singletary’s death has been ruled a homicide. Singletary, of Petersburg, Virginia, died from multiple gunshot wounds.  The coroner’s office pointed out that the homicide ruling means that he died at the hands of another.

Singletary was stopped by a Pennsylvania State Police Trooper along I-83 south, near exit 24 just before 1:19 p.m. Tuesday. According to state police reports, Singletary pulled away during the traffic stop and the trooper became caught on the left side of the vehicle.

The trooper was dragged alongside the vehicle and investigators say Singletary attempted to crush the trooper’s body against the center median. According to police, the trooper tried to stop Singletary without lethal force, but when Singletary continued driving–the trooper fired multiple shots at him–killing him.

Still no word on the identity of the trooper involved in the shooting. He suffered injuries that do not appear to be life threatening.
