LOWER PAXTON TWP., Pa. – Police officers from two local police departments will serve as mentors for local children.

13 officers from the Swatara Township and Susquehanna Township police departments will serve as “bigs” for the children. They met with their mentees for the first time at an event held Wednesday night at Central Dauphin East High School.

“We’re just trying to build good relationships with the kids in our communities and in the school districts to let them know that we’re a good resource as mentors and someone that they can speak to if they need help,” Lt. Francia Doné of the Susquehanna Township Police Department said.

Taking part in a program like this has many benefits for the children as well as for the police officers in their efforts to keep their communities safe, Doné said.
