YORK, Pa. --  The sound of bells in the air means it's time to help make someone else's holiday season a little more merry and bright.  The Salvation Army kicked off its annual Red Kettle Campaign Friday in York's Continental Square.  The red kettle, along with the bell ringers who stand nearby, are traditions for the Salvation Army, and icons of the organization's most recognizable fundraiser.

Red kettles will be stationed in 20 prominent locations throughout the city of York through Christmas Eve, to collect donations from passersby.

"The Salvation Army is astounded by the generosity of York County," says Dennis Camuti, Corps Officer with the York Salvation Army.   "It truly is remarkable and we're grateful for the support, which enables us to move our mission forward and continue to help people."

All donations collected during the holiday campaign will fund Salvation Army programs and services in York County.
