HANOVER BOROUGH, YORK COUNTY, Pa. -- Friends and family mourn the loss of a four-year-old girl, as Hanover police search for the hit-and-run driver who killed her.

The driver is described as a white male, possibly with a beard, who was driving a white van with writing on the side and a ladder attached to the roof.

Witnesses say it happened so fast, there wasn't time to get a license plate number.

There was a lot to love about s little girl named Dakota Sky Wright, who will be deeply missed by her loved ones.

Dakota's sister Natalie Meckley said "just having her around, her cheering me up every day, and being there for me. everything she was my little sister."

Family friend Tashyra Heath said "she was really smart, she always wanted to play tea, sleep over, anything, she was just an amazing child."

Tuesday evening, Dakota was coming home with a family friend, when her life was about to be cut short.

Family friend Cameron Balmaceno said "I was about to the end of the sidewalk, and I look back, I see her in the car get out, but then just thinking I don't look back, she calls Gavin, Gavin, Gavin, and all I hear is boom, boom, boom."

Hanover police said a man driving a white van struck the four-year-old girl in the 200-block of Princess Street, and then sped off towards Sprenkle Avenue.

"I turn around and see the van, and I just scream, where's Dakota, where's Dakota," Balmaceno said.

Police said Dakota was taken to a hospital, where she later died.

"It was so sad. I wish no one to go through this," Balmaceno said.

As Meckley said her sister brought her much joy, she now seeks justice for Dakota.

"Just turn yourself in, it's not worth it, it's causing us so much pain to me and everybody around me, and she didn't deserve it, she was too young," Meckley said.

The family set up a GoFundMe page to help with Dakota's funeral and burial expenses.
