He previously served as a commissioner and chairman of the Federal Election Commission (FEC).  He also served as general counsel for the National Republican Congressional Committee (NRCC) for nearly 10 years, where he introduced several innovations, including what has become the standard structure for making independent expenditures.

“This is a tremendous accomplishment for Mr. McGahn and we are proud of our alum who is making an impact on a national level,” said Dean Christian Johnson. “We wish him great success in his new role.”

McGahn is one of several Widener Law Commonwealth alumni who have gone on to have success on the national level. Dean Johnson said the school is poised to continue producing quality professionals for key government positions, as it is home to the Law & Government Institute.
