According to Gov. Tom Wolf’s office, he will not be attending this year’s annual Pennsylvania Society.

The Pennsylvania Society is a non-profit, charitable organization with over two thousand members around the Commonwealth, the United States and the world, its website reports.  It is not affiliated with any particular political party, business or profession.  Its purpose is to honor achievement, to reward excellence, to promote good will and understanding and to celebrate service to the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania and to humanity in general.

The statement released by Wolf’s office explained that the Governor will donate money to the following groups, instead:

Philabundance: $10,000

Greater Pittsburgh Community Food Bank: $10,000

Central Pennsylvania Food Bank: $10,000

The money being donated comes from the Wolf Inaugural Fund. The governor will also volunteer in Central Pennsylvania next week.

Additionally, Wolf has committed to personally donating $10,000 to The Pennsylvania Society Scholarship Program in partnership with the Maguire Foundation. This fund provides four year scholarships to Pennsylvania seniors to enroll in full-time undergraduate study at an accredited, non-proprietary four-year college or university which must be located within the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania

On Saturday, December 10th, Wolf will attend The Pattison-Leader Ball in Philadelphia, which brings together young, civically minded, and politically motivated professionals, for an evening to discuss the future of Pennsylvania politics and policy. The Pattison-Leader Ball is named after Governor Robert E. Pattison and Governor George M. Leader, the two youngest governors in Pennsylvania’s history. The governor will also sponsor this event.
