Leola teen charged after fleeing from police in stolen SUV

LANCASTER, Pa.–A Leola teenager was arrested early Thursday morning following a police chase in Lancaster city.

Jorge Luis Santiago, 18,  is charged with receiving stolen property, fleeing or attempting to elude police and numerous traffic violations.  He was arraigned Thursday and taken to Lancaster County in lieu of $100,000 bail.

Officers attempted to stop Santiago around 3:23 a.m. along the 600 block of St. Joseph Street in Lancaster city. According to police reports, officers noticed the registration plate displayed on the yellow Ford Escape Santiago was driving was not assigned to the vehicle. Santiago refused to pull over and fled from police.

The chase ended when Santiago hit a curb along Route 741 and the SUV became disabled. Police took Santiago and his passenger into custody at the scene. Officers discovered the SUV had been reported stolen from the 600 block of East Walnut Street.

Authorities say the owner didn’t realize their vehicle had been stolen until they were contacted by police.

A preliminary hearing is scheduled for December 15.
