YORK, Pa. – York City Mayor C. Kim Bracey says she will seek a third term.
“It is an absolute honor to work daily on behalf of the over 43,000 residents of our great city. Together, we’ve made incredible strides forward for our community and together I hope to continue the hard work to benefit our City on behalf of our City,” Bracey said.
Bracey is touting accomplishments like putting York City on a laser focused financial strategic stability plan that has paid off with five consecutive budgets without a tax increase, two of which included property tax reductions.[1] Bracey’s Administration has also spearheaded over $8 million in neighborhood investment, specifically targeted in the Salem Square, Royal Square and Olde Towne East Neighborhoods. Cumulatively, her Administration has assisted in the closure of four nuisance or problem bars that has led to diminished criminal activity. Overall crime is down 31% since taking office in 2010[2] and to ensure it remains down, she has kicked off a new public safety initiative to complement the community policing enacted when she first took office.
The Bracey Administration has assisted in over $100 million in economic development. These are projects not limited to the revitalization of both Central and Farmers Markets, the Marketview Arts Center, Keystone Colorworks residential redevelopment, United Fiber & Data corporate campus, Linden Lofts, Marketway redevelopment, Homes at Thackston Park, George Street Commons, and the Ribbon Lofts.
“Our economic and community development efforts could not be possible without the muscle of our private sector and numerous community organizations. These projects touch nearly every quadrant of our City, specifically anchoring many of our incredibly strong neighborhoods such as Memorial Park, The Avenues, South George Street, Royal Square, and WECO among others. We continue to bring parties together to make good things happen. I hope to continue doing just that for four more years,” said Bracey.
3rd Class Cities in Pennsylvania have no term limits for the office of mayor. If elected, this would be an historic term for Bracey, as she would be the first female elected to a third term as Mayor of the City of York. Previously, York has had only one other three-term mayor, Bill Althaus. Bracey already made history as the first African American elected Mayor of York City.
“I hope to continue the work we’ve begun. Investment is up, crime is down, we’ve held the line in five consecutive budgets and are now steadfast on a plan to continue to reduce property taxes. Challenges will always exist. Time and again, our York community has proved that hurdles can always be overcome and challenges will always be bested. It is an honor to seek a third term and would be an incredible privilege to be granted the opportunity by my neighbors,” said Mayor Bracey.
[1] The 2017 Budget Proposal includes a property tax reduction and is pending City Council approval.
