Brand Castle of Bedford Heights, Ohio is recalling limited qualities of their product, In The Mix Monkey Bread Mix because it has the potential to be contaminated with Salmonella.
One of the ingredient suppliers, Valley Milk Products LLC, has issued a recall for the buttermilk powder, which is used in this product. The recall of the product is due to the potential for contamination by Salmonella organisms found in their facility and finished product samples during an FDA investigation. Although no pathogenic bacteria have been found in the powdered products supplied to the In The Mix blending facility by the ingredient manufacturer, they have decided out of an abundance of caution to recall product produced with the affected lots of buttermilk powder.
Salmonella is an organism that can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems. Healthy people infected with Salmonella often experience fever, diarrhea (which may be bloody), nausea, vomiting and abdominal pain.
The affected product was sold in Pennsylvania. A total of 168 cases of product are affected by the recall.
The product has a UPC code of 8-44527-03278-2 and is packaged in a 16 oz. box with a sticker on the back of the package indicating the below Lot#/Date Code.
As of now there have been no reported illnesses and no Salmonella has been found in the recalled lots of buttermilk powder used in this product.
If consumers have any of the listed product, they must discontinue use and discard product immediately.
