LANCASTER, Pa. - At the age of 11, Mi Mi Poe from Thailand and her family relocated to Lancaster.
"I think we have a better future here than in Thailand because of refugee camp. We didn't have a lot of a future or education," said Poe.
She has now been in Lancaster for two years and attends Reynolds Middle School. When she first got to the school she did not speak English.
"It's really hard. The first thing is like, the first sentence I know here, that I understand is I know and I don't know. It's really scary," said she.
She has learned and says she is doing better. Also, inside her school is also the Refugee Center and community school.
"Our center is really focused on school support services to refugee students and enhancing current services for refugees in the community past the initial resettlement period," said Josh McManness, Refugee Center and Community School Liaison.
The center has been open for a year and has served 300 students and families.
