WARWICK TWP., Pa. - Despite the cold temperatures, when a call comes in members of the Lititz Fire Department answer.
According to the Lititz Fire Chief a call came in around 9:20am Thursday for a fire inside Tait Towers in Warwick Township. People inside the building were evacuated and there were no injuries. A cause is still under investigation.
Crews were able to put the fire out quickly, but they still had to stay, out in the cold, to ventilate the building. In the cold, one challenge they faced was making sure water in the line did not freeze.
"Fire fightings is a tough business at anytime. The amount of gear the guys wear, the additional things like the air pack and tools that they have to carry, it's tough in normal conditions but whenever we get the extremes of heat and cold it becomes even more of a challenge," said Ron Oettel, Fire Chief of Lititz Fire Department.
Crews spent about two hours on scene and were happy to get back to the firehouse where it was warm.
