One dead after police-involved shooting in Lancaster City

LANCASTER CITY, Pa.-- A shooting took place between city police officers and a male suspect Tuesday morning in Lancaster City.

The incident began around 12:30 a.m.  Two city police officers were on S. Duke and North streets when they observed 18-year-old Jose Efrain Rodriguez.

According to police Rodriguez walked up to their vehicle and was armed with a handgun that was not visible to police. The investigation then shows Rodriguez fired at the officers, and then was shot by police.

The police report states that the police deployed their Tasers and no officers were struck by gunfire or injured.

Rodriguez was pronounced dead at a local hospital.

 

The district attorney will review all reports and evidence, including any available surveillance footage of the incident. At that point, the district attorney will make a determination and the information will be promptly released to the public.

No additional information is being released at this time, including specifics about the officers involved.

The investigation is ongoing and anyone with information about the incident is asked to contact police.
