WEST HEMPFIELD TOWNSHIP, LANCASTER COUNTY, Pa.-- One person is dead after an early morning crash.

Police were dispatched to the 100 block of N. Donnerville Road at 2:45 a.m. for a report of a single vehicle crash with entrapment.

Upon arrival, police found that the vehicle had struck a tree and the driver was unconscious and trapped due to severe crash damage.

The driver was pronounced deceased by medical personnel.

A preliminary investigation shows that the vehicle was traveling south on Donnerville Road. The driver lost control after traveling over an elevated railroad crossing, veered off the roadway to the right and struck a curb and wooden sign before reaching its final resting spot against a tree.

The vehicle sustained heavy damage to the driver side of the vehicle.

It is unknown at this point whether drugs played any part in the incident.

An autopsy will be conducted by the Lancaster County Coroner's Office and the name of the deceased will be released pending the notification of family members.
