YORK CITY, Pa  — State Police are investigating a police involved shooting that sent one person to the hospital.

According to the mayor’s office, the incident started when fire crews were to the area of Carlisle Road and Pennsylvania Avenue on Friday evening.

While controlling the blaze, a bystander noticed a suspicious person in a nearby backyard and told firefighters on-scene.

As crews waited for police to arrive, they spoke with the suspect at a distance, and the person admitted to starting the blaze and started throwing rocks at firefighters and wielding a screwdriver.

When police arrived, firefighters witnessed the suspect throwing bricks at the officers and pull out a handgun. Police engaged the suspect.

The suspect was taken to York Hospital for non-life threatening injuries and are in stable condition.
