David Silverstein

Hello, I’m David Silverstein and I’m FOX43′s News Director. Here’s a little bit about me. I’m an Emmy award winning broadcast journalism veteran who’s managed newsrooms and directed talent in some of the most competitive markets in the country, places like Miami, Tampa, Columbus and Denver.

Besides working in TV News for more than 20 years, I had the unique opportunity to work as the Director of Communications for the South Florida Super Bowl Host Committee in 2009-2010. Following Super Bowl XLIV, I served side-by-side with some of this country’s Servicemembers as I ran the newsroom for the Pentagon Channel in Washington, DC.

I consider myself very lucky. Mostly because I’ve been living my professional dream for more than two decades. After graduating from Syracuse, I worked my way up from a producer in places like Charlotte, Denver and Miami.  Then media mogul Barry Diller gave me my big break. Diller offered me my first News Director job working in the heart of Miami’s South Beach. He didn’t have to ask twice. Besides running newsrooms as News Director from Miami to Columbus to Baltimore, I also worked in Hollywood where I helped create a TV pilot for Warner Bros.

I also love giving back to the industry that has been so good to me. I was proud to serve as adjunct professor at The University of Maryland’s prestigious Philip Merrill School of Journalism. In College Park, I taught broadcasters of the future producing and reporting, as well as Digital Media training and blogging.
