DOVER GAS LEAK

In York County, Dover Township officials say a boil water advisory for some Township residents remains in effect until at least Thursday. The advisory affects home in the area of Pine Road, Park Street, Prospect Avenue, Grandview Avenue, Sherwood Lane, High Street, and Royal Avenue along with residents and businesses located in the 2800 and 2900 block of Carlisle Road, Route 74.  On Monday afternoon a contract crew working on a sewer line hit a natural gas line.  Several hours later, a water main also broke.

Dover Township crews worked overnight to repair the water main break.  Township officials want to be sure the system is contamination free before declaring the water is safe to drink.  Meantime, Columbia Gas crews, who had to wait until the water main was repaired, expect repairs on the natural gas line to be completed by around 4 o’clock Tuesday afternoon. The break affect approximately 24 Columbia Gas customers.

A boil water advisory is in effect until further notice in Dover Township, York County.  The problem began at around 3:30 Monday afternoon when a contracting crew doing sewer work severed a natural gas line near a mobile home park in the 2200 block of Pine Road.  Sometime between 5 pm and 7 pm a water main  broke forcing Township officials to shut off water service in the area of Pine Road, Park Street, Prospect Avenue, Grandview Avenue, Sherwood Lane, High Street and Royal Avenue.

Also affect are homes and businesses in the 2800 and 2900 block of Carlisle Road, Route 74.   The Township says the problem may not be resolved until sometime on Tuesday. A Columbia Gas spokesman says natural gas service will not be restored until the water main break is repaired.  Township residents living in homes without water and need to relocate should call the American Red Cross at 843-0818.

When firefighters arrived on the scene as they were hooking up to a hydrant, a water main broke leaving residents without a water supply. Repairs continue to fix both problems.
