Rimpfel has dedicated his entire professional career to coaching high school football. He has been CV’s head coach since 1989 and prior, was CV’s assistant coach and head coach at neighboring Trinity and Bishop McDevitt.”After 43 years coaching and 24 years as head coach at Cumberland Valley, I simply feel it is time for me to enjoy my retirement with my wife, Liz, and my daughters, Callie and Katie,” said Rimpfel. “I am thankful for the support I have received from the Cumberland Valley School District community and all of my great assistant coaches throughout the years in order to develop a great football program. Our athletes at CV have always been dedicated and disciplined, and have had a desire to succeed. I appreciate all of my former players and wish the program well in the future.”
Coach Rimpfel is synonymous with Cumberland Valley football. He has shown throughout his career that you can “hold student-athletes to a high standard both academically and as citizens in the school, while still being successful on the football field,” said Gary Quigley, Rimpfel’s friend, former player, and assistant coach.
“Words can’t describe the respect and admiration that I have for Tim Rimpfel as a coach, mentor, and friend,” said Mike Craig, Cumberland Valley athletic director. “He is not only respected throughout Pennsylvania as a football coach but he is an outstanding educator and great husband and father to his family. I hope now that he can enjoy his retirement with his family.”
Coach Rimpfel’s career highlights show his commitment to his students and to the game. This year he garnered his 300th career win a milestone only 10 other head coaches in the state have achieved and he celebrated the 20th anniversary of the Cumberland Valley football program’s 1992 PIAA AAAA State Championship win, an honor he earned in his fourth season as CV’s head coach.
He has been named PA Big School Coach of the Year, he has served as a Big 33 head and assistant coach, he is a member of the West Shore Chapter PA Sports Hall of Fame, was inducted in the Cumberland Valley Football Alumni Association Hall of Fame, and has been named Mid-Penn Conference Coach of the Year and Coach of the Year by the Sentinel and Patriot-News.
He has amassed District 3 Championship honors nine times as CV’s head coach and twice while at Bishop McDevitt. He also coached CV’s team to District 3 Runner-up honors three times. Rimpfel finished out his career with an overall record of 307-100.
“Tim Rimpfel is a school district treasure who will be deeply missed in our hallways and on the sidelines. His love, leadership, and values have been ingrained into so many students and graduates over the last two-and-a-half decades; his positive impression on our football program is permanent,” said Superintendent William E. Harner. “It’s certainly difficult to say goodbye to such a cherished football coach and student mentor, but Coach is without a doubt deserving of this retirement and we wish him all the best.”
Added Craig: “Coach Rimpfel’s teams were always disciplined, well prepared, and showed good sportsmanship. All of these traits have served his players well as they have become adults. He has left a lasting impressing on the CV community and we appreciate all that he has done for this school district.”
