It’s a race to the finish line for the first-ever Extraordinary Give in Lancaster.
The Lancaster County Community Foundation put on the event to raise money for nonprofits organizations, but it’s not your typical fundraiser. It’s all done online and it only lasts for 24 hours.
“The shot clock is ticking. Midnight we turn into a pumpkin and we wrap this thing up,” said Sam Bressi, president and CEO of the Lancaster County Community Foundation.
Nearly 200 organizations are battling it out for who can raise the most money. As of 8:30 Friday night, the Children Deserve a Chance Foundation was in the lead with more than $50,000.”We kind of ran out in front. Then to be expected, some of the larger organizations are now catching up,” said Jordan Steffy, who started the foundation.
The money has been pouring in to each of the nonprofits all day long.
“I was in tears this morning when I saw the list. I got all choked up. It was really great to see people are supporting our mission and what we do,” said Karen Gerth, Executive Director for KPETS.
Each group is using the last few hours to get their names to the top of the leaderboard. No matter who comes in first, the Extraordinary Give is already a huge win for all Lancaster County nonprofits.”This is a tremendous opportunity for Lancaster to raise a lot of money for a lot of well deserving nonprofits that are ultimately creating change in this community,” Steffy said.
The Lancaster County Community Foundation will add another $250,000 to all of the money donated.
