It’s only five days until Christmas and the lights are shining bright on one York County spot.  Rocky Ridge Park is celebrating the 29th edition of Christmas Magic.  The 1/2 mile long walking light show features about 600,000 lights and five indoor displays that will put any Scrooge in the holiday spirit.

The lights display has been a York County tradition for nearly three decades.  According to York County’s website, “Christmas Magic is in its 29th season this year. It began in 1984, the product of the “energy crunch” , when fewer homes were decorating, yet there was still a desire to see Christmas lights locally. In 1984 a small budget allowed for 10,000 lights and props, most produced by the Parks Department. Today, the props are produced commercially and “in-house.” This is the largest program presented by the York County Department of Parks and Recreation each year.”

The light display is open from 6 to 9 p.m. Monday through Friday and 5 t0 9 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday.  The park is open every day except December 24 and 25 with New Year’s Eve wrapping up the festivities.
