Governor Tom Corbett has called for a moment of silence at 9:30 Friday morning in remembrance of the shooting victims at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Connecticut.

“We take this opportunity to think of all the people in Connecticut whose happiness was shattered in just a few minutes one week ago.  We mourn the loss of these innocent lives and pray for their heartbroken families and friends who are coping with their grief, ” Corbett said.  “I invite all Pennsylvanians to join me in this moment of respect and reflection.”

After learning of the school shooting last Friday, the Governor immediately ordered Pennsylvania state flags lowered to half-staff.

Connecticut Governor Dannel Malloy asked governors across the country to join the citizens of his state in a moment of reflection Friday. He said the tragedy extended “beyond Newton, beyond the borders of Connecticut, and has spread across the nation and the world.

Governor Malloy has also requested that all houses of worship and government buildings to ring bells 26 times during that moment in honor of each of the victims killed at Sandy Hook Elementary School.
