There has been another big financial settlement in the massive BP oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico. Transocean, the owner of the drilling rig leased to BP, will pay $1.4 billion dollars to settle the federal government’s criminal and civil investigations of the company. The company also agreeing to plead guilty to violating the clean water act and obstruction of congress. 11 workers died in an explosion which sank the rig in 2010. BP has already agreed to pay more than four billion dollars in penalties.
