Three months after a judge sentenced Jerry Sandusky to spend the rest of his life in jail, the convicted felon’s legal team is starting the appeal process.

He and his lawyers will be in court Thursday to start the appeal, which is based on their claims they did not have adequate time to prepare for the trial.

“We needed more time to go through that information, to develop further investigative needs, and we simply ran out of time. We had to cut off the investigation to get ready to go to trial,” said Joseph Amendola, Sandusky’s attorney.

His co-counsel Karl Rominger defended his client in an interview before the sentencing back in October.

“He seems affable. He seems sincere and he has maintained his innocence the entire time,” Rominger said of Sandusky.

Sandusky was convicted in June on 45 of 48 counts of sexually abusing ten boys over a 15-year period. Rominger said his legal team has been planning their appeal since before Sandusky was sentenced.

“It would be the temptation to simply sweep this one under the rug. I am confident in our courts that this won’t happen,” he said.
