WINTRY MESS ENDS:  It’s been a messy night while you were sleeping, with rain, sleet, snow and freezing rain falling across parts of the area.  Despite a break in the precip this morning, some locations cloud be slick.  The mountains of Mifflin, Juniata, and Perry counties have seen snow covering some of the roads.  Areas along the turnpike have a mixture of sleet and freezing rain to deal with.  South of the turnpike along the PA/MD border have been mostly rain, but there are some sleet and freezing rain reports in spots.  Bottom line: give yourself a bunch of extra time and take it easy when traveling this morning

The bulk of the winter weather continues to close out across the area this morning.  However, scattered snow/sleet showers will turn to rain in most spots through midday and early afternoon as the energy finally pulls away from us.  We begin near freezing, but should top out in the upper 30s with clouds hanging tight all day.  Evening plans look dry and cold.  Overnight, we’re mainly cloudy and dropping to near 30°.

TRANQUILITY RETURNS:  We should stay dry from Thursday through Saturday.  A chunk of colder air comes into to close out the week, but it’s bumped out on Saturday.  So, highs will hit the mid to upper 30s tomorrow, with middle 30s for Friday.  Saturday we warm to the mid 40s!  Sunshine returns for Friday and Saturday.  Sunday, a system looks to clip to our north.  We expect clouds for now and only a small chance for a quick snow shower or two.  Highs are back in the upper 30s.

Quick note.  A system will race into the Atlantic just to our south on Thursday and northwesterly flow throws colder air into PA. Light snow will come very close to the PA/MD border late Thursday, but for now we look snow free.  Keep in touch for changes.

COLD BLAST:  A lobe of arctic air swings into the Northeast for next week.  Temperatures will only rise to near 30° on Monday and stay in the upper 20s Tuesday.  The cold air comes with a quick clipper system that could bring some light snow on Monday.  Details to come as we get them!
