During the opening statements of the trial, Edward Romero’s attorney said that he doesn’t remember what happened and that jurors should find him not guilty by reason of insanity.
But prosecutors say the man killed the teenage girl and then attempted to cut up her body in small enough pieces to flush down the toilet.
The trial is expected to last a couple of weeks.
