We continue to see the weather quieting down across the area, but there are still some problem areas, mainly in terms of flooding. A Flood Warning remains in effect for the Conestoga River at Lancaster for moderate flooding and the Swatara Creek at Hershey and Harper Tavern for minor flooding.
Flood stage for the Conestoga River at Lancaster is 11 feet. The river is expected to crest at 13.2 feet around 4 P.M. Thursday before dropping. The Swatara Creek at Hershey has a flood stage of 7 feet, and a crest of 7.5 feet is expected around 7 P.M. Thursday before river levels subside. The Swatara Creek at Harper Tavern’s flood stage is 9 feet. It is expected to crest at 10 feet around 7 P.M. Thursday, and then river levels will begin to drop.
The Wind Advisory remains in effect through 6 P.M. Thursday. Westerly winds at 15 to 30 miles per hour could gust as high as 45 miles per hour.
Colder air will continue to pour into the region through the afternoon, holding temperatures steady in the 30s before tumbling early this evening. The rush of colder air and strong westerly winds are producing snow squalls, mainly to the northwest. Counties include mainly Mifflin and Juniata counties. Snow squalls are typically brief, fast-moving bursts of snow. Visibilities can be greatly reduced in any squall, and winds could gust as high as 45mph, making travel difficult at times. Some light flurries throughout the rest of central Pennsylvania are possible at times. Expect no headaches from this while traveling.
