One killed in crash on Route 222

West Earl Township Police are investigating the early morning crash on Route 222 just north of the Peach Road overpass that backed up traffic during rush hour. At around 7 a.m., a Ford Five Hundred traveling in the southbound lanes crossed over the median and struck a Ford Ranger pick-up, head on, in the northbound lanes of Route 222.

The driver of the Ford Five Hundred was pronounced dead at the scene. The pick-up truck driver was trapped in his vehicle but was rescued by the West Earl Fire Department and taken to Lancaster General Hospital.

The identities of both victims are being withheld until family is notified of the accident. The cause of the crash is currently under investigation and anyone with information is asked to contact the West Earl Township Police Department at 717-859-1411.
