Dauphin standoff suspect tries to avoid jail time

Alan Shearer, 55, was due in York County court for sentencing today–but instead he grabbed a rifle and told his wife he didn’t want to go to jail.

That’s when the wife called 911.

State police arrived at the scene and were able to get the wife out of the house safely. Negotiations ensued for about 45 minutes until a shot went off.

Troopers say Shearer had shot himself in the left bicep with a rifle.

He was taken to Hershey Medical Center for treatment. He is expected to survive.
