A Lancaster County business goes up in smoke twice in a 9 hour span. The second fire destroyed the building that was home to Keystone Construction along Oregon Pike in West Earl Township.
Over 100 firefighters responded to the 2-alarm fire just after 1 a.m. Wednesday morning. West Earl Fire Chief Nate Stoltzfus says the flames had already engulfed most of the building by the time they got on scene. Between the fire fighters and the employees, they were able to save some of the construction equipment inside the building. Weather also caused some problems.
“Ice, had a couple of guys slip but no injuries, trying to keep the ice down. Luckily it’s not any colder because nothing is freezing up, no pumps freezing or anything,” said Chief Stoltzfus.
A backhoe is now tearing the building apart to try and hit all of the hotspots and put out the fire.
Oregon Pike, Route 272, is closed at the West Earl Township line because of the firefighting operations.
