The State Act 1 Tax Index limits York City to a %2.7 tax for next year. But the board voted to possibly apply for an exception to that limit and raise it to %5.65.

On Wednesday night, the school board took the first step in keeping the idea on the table approving it with a 5 to 3 vote.

The board stressed that this doesn’t mean it will increase the taxes. They just need to take action now because the timeline to apply for the exception is now until June 30th as the board will continue to work on the budget into July.

Local residents voiced their opinion on even the thought of paying more out of their pockets.
