Finished with a day of shopping at a trendy Harrisburg boutique more than 30 years ago, Linda J. Knauss of North Whitehall Township was walking out with her husband and the boutique’s owner when a gunman approached them.
The man made threats and then started firing, one bullet hitting Knauss in the neck, a wound that would leave her partially paralyzed.
Last week, the 65-year-old died and the Lehigh County coroner’s office blamed that bullet, ruling her cause of death as complications from a gunshot wound. The coroner also ruled the case a homicide.
Chief Deputy Coroner Paul Hoffman said Knauss, of 5268 Baldwin Lane, had been admitted into the hospital for a respiratory issue, one of many medical ailments she endured after being shot as she tried running from a gunman April 12, 1982, in downtown Harrisburg.
