PennDOT District 8 set work zone signs in mid-Feb. and today announced that on March 4 construction crews will begin work on the first phase of a project to realign and reconstruct a section of Cool Creek Road near East Prospect Borough in Lower Windsor Township, York County.

The contract for $2,982,001 was awarded to Kinsley Construction, Inc. of York, York County, and includes the design and realignment of a section of Cool Creek Road, phased construction, excavation and removal of the existing structures, installation of two pre-cast concrete box culverts, roadway reconstruction, drainage improvements and installation of guiderail, signs and new traffic lines. PennDOT advises travelers that Cool Creek Road will be closed to through traffic from March 4 at 9.a.m. through December between Adams Road and Nursery Road in Lower Windsor Township. The contractor has agreed to assist local residents with access to their property during roadway reconstruction. PennDOT expects the reconstruction of this section of Cool Creek Road to be completed and the road reopened to traffic by the end of 2013. Until then, a detour which follows Mt. Pisgah Road, Main Street in Yorkana Borough, Route 124, Maple Street and Main Street in East Prospect Borough and Nursery Road will be in place.

The contractor will return in the spring or early summer of 2014 to resurface the roadway. Cool Creek Road, officially designated as State Route 2011, averages 4,480 vehicles each day.

The existing structures supporting the concrete slabs that carry Cool Creek Road over an unnamed tributary to Canadochly Creek were built in 1933 and are considered functionally obsolete.
