Serial purse-snatcher arrested

Police say they have the man responsible for multiple purse-snatchings in our area. Jevon Avis, 31, of Berwyn, is accused of stealing a female shopper’s purse at the Giant in Upper Allen Township on February 17th. In the course of their investigation, Upper Allen Police discovered Avis was also responsible for multiple other similar thefts in the southern PA area. On February 28, 2013 Upper Allen Police arrested Avis for the theft at Giant. He was arraigned before Magisterial District Judge Knepper on charges of Theft by Unlawful Taking and
Receiving Stolen Property and a preliminary hearing is scheduled for March 11, 2013.
Police urge shoppers to be cognizant of the placement of purses and wallets while shopping in stores.
