State police say a York County  man shot and killed his 39-year-old wife and then turned the gun on himself late Saturday night. Steven H. Himes, 43, committed suicide after killing his wife during a domestic dispute at their home along the 2400 block of Delta Road in Chanceford Township, troopers said.

Himes called 911 around 11 p.m. to say he had just shot  his wife, Amanda K. Himes. While on the phone with dispatchers, Steven went to the basement and then shot himself in the chest.

Authorities arrived at the home and found Amanda’s body in a first floor bedroom. She had been shot multiple times, troopers said.

They located the body of Steven Himes in the basement.

An autopsy will be performed on Amanda Himes.

The investigation is ongoing.

Am I missing something here? Why is it necessary to investigate something that was clearly a murder suicide? Do they expect to find something that will change history here and by some miracle, bring them back to life? To me, this is a waste of money that cites, counties and states are lacking in their budgets. It is a waste of time, manpower and resources. The time has come to be smart about cases like this and take them for what they are, in this case a murder suicide.

Being smart about cases means that you do not accept what appears to be obvious. Not everything is as it appears especially to the untrained observer. You armchair sleuths slay me when you jump to conclusions. You were not there and you saw nothing. More than one murder/suicide has been proven to be a double homicide. Good police work rules out the apparent in favor of the actual. How ignorant are you? Just about that ignorant..

I did have more to add to my one-word comment but had decided against it then. I was going to illustrate more simple examples like when someone is standing in the middle of a room and killing people and then is subdued by others or police and is perhaps on camera. We'll waste time and money on an investigation and prosecution (not guilty plea) when it is so evidently clear that the murderer is guilty as he/she was immediately captured.

Now LTC, I agree with you. I did spout off an agreement too quickly. I agree with rcmodeler724 on a concept that did not apply in this case. The concept needs more clarity and argument which is beyond the scope of this article.

A horrible thing happened. A person is gone too soon. This is someone’s mother, daughter, sister, friend. This is not the time to criticize budgets it is a time to morn and pay respect to the family. If investigators can give any amount of closure to the family let them and find something else to bitch about but this is not the time or place. There are two children that will grow up without their parents who will one day need answers as to why this horrific event happened. Please people think about what you say before you say it and show a little respect!
