State Police are investigating a murder-suicide in Chanceford Township, York County that happened late Saturday night.

Troopers say 43-year-old Steven Himes shot and killed his wife, 39-year-old Amanda Himes before turning the gun on himself.

According to investigators, Steven Himes called 9-1-1 late Saturday saying he’d murdered his wife then committed suicide while on the phone with dispatchers.

York County Coroner Barry Bloss says the couple’s two young children were home at the time.

“The children, I don’t know how much they saw or know. But they had to know something with police and everyone showing up. So it’s always going to be tough to know exactly what happened as they grow up,” he said.

People who live nearby say they never saw anythnig out of the ordinary at the home until now.

“They were mostly quiet. The kids were usually outside playing,” said Todd Reachard, who lives two doors down.

An autopsy will be done on Amanda Himes’ body at Lehigh Valley Medical Center later this week.
