WPMT Fox 43 was the only station at the scene today as search crews pulled a stolen taxi out of the Susquehanna River in York County. The cab ended up in the river after a high-speed police chase last weekend.

The owner of the Top Water Marina Ken Shartzer, actually found the submerged mini-van on Saturday. He said he didn’t use any high-tech gear, just a pair of polarized fishing glasses that cut through the glare on the water. Shartzer said the cab was easy to spot.

“Yesterday, there wasn’t much wind and the water was clear, so I just got out in my boat and went up and I seen the taxi cab sign, so then I put a buoy in to mark it,” Shartzer explained.

23-year old Raymond Kallenberger is accused of carjacking a taxi driver in Bel Air, Maryland and then leading police on a chase, before crashing into the river in Goldsboro. Kallenberger then took off his clothing and got on top of the van as it sank.

He was taken into custody when he swam to shore. Kallenberger is facing numerous charges, including theft, reckless endangerment and DUI. It took crews around an hour to pull the van from the river.
