A week-long lockdown at Dauphin County Prison will be lifted at 6 a.m. on March 12, 2013. Normal visitation hours will resume at this time.
The prison has been locked down since 12:28 p.m. on March 5, 2013, when correctional staff discovered that 25-year-old Andthony Ray Spears had used an implement to dig a hole in his jail cell wall. He faces several charges related to the escape attempt.
Damages to the cell are estimated at $5,000.
During a lock down, inmates must remain in their cells and visitation is restricted while a thorough sweep of the facility is conducted to ensure the safety and security of the inmates, prison employees and visitors.
