York County prison has adopted a new religious activities policy because some inmates are claiming to be Jewish just to get kosher meals. Kosher meals are a lot more expensive than regular meals. The prison will now have a more formal procedure in place for dealing with those inmates who lie about religion. The policy will not be released publicly. Last month, the warden said over 140 inmates indicated they are of the Jewish faith.
