PennDOT Engineering District 8 set concrete barrier March 20 marking the start of a project to repair the Route 441 bridge over the Airport Connector ramp to Route 283 East near Harrisburg International Airport in Lower Swatara Township, Dauphin County.

The $755,449 contract was awarded on Jan. 10 to Deblin, Inc., of Mechanicsburg, Cumberland County, and includes bridge expansion dam replacement, bridge deck and substructure repairs, a latex-modified concrete overlay and new traffic lines.

PennDOT advises travelers that they will encounter single-lane restrictions and shifting traffic patterns from now through Sept. as repairs are conducted on one half of the bridge at a time.
Motorists are advised to be alert for this operation, to obey work zone signs, and to slow down when approaching and traveling through work zones, not only for their safety, but for the safety of the road crews.

Route 441, known locally as Oberlin Road, averages more than 4,500 vehicles traveled daily.

The existing three-span pre-stressed concrete I-beam bridge on Route 441 was originally constructed in 1976. Repairs under this contract are intended to preserve the useful life of this structure.
