A deserted century-old Lancaster County mansion burned to the ground on Friday afternoon. Firefighters responded to the vacant Gammache Mansion along the 1200 block of New Holland Avenue in Manheim Township for a working structure fire around 4:30 p.m.

Fire crews let it burn itself out because the three-story mansion was already scheduled to be demolished.

There have been numerous criminal activities reported on the property over the last few years, fire officials said.  It is unclear what started the blaze.

A state police fire marshal is investigating.
