SPRING SNOW ON THE WAY

Spring snowfall approaches

A storm system just to our south and southwest continues to make its way toward Central PA, and it is expected to bring some accumulating snow to the region.  From the late evening to just past midnight, the first bits of precipitation make it into the south and southwestern portions of our area, along the state border.  Temperatures are crucial here.  With readings still above freezing at the onset of the precipitation, some rain mixes in, perhaps with some sleet too.  It likely takes several hours before snow begins sticking, roughly close to daybreak.  Temperatures remain near freezing when the heaviest precipitation moves in near daybreak, so the morning commute will be slow as more snow should begin to stick.  Snow continues through the rest of the morning, with most of the area picking up at least 2 inches.  Temperatures warm into the afternoon hours, and as the precipitation begins to wrap up, it’s likely some rain mixes in.  Any excessive mixing with rain will cut into snowfall totals.  It is March, and the sun angle is very strong for this time of year.  There’s also a very good chance part of the accumulations won’t stick to the roads.  By the evening hours, we are left with a few rain and snow showers.

SLOWLY IMPROVING

Temperatures continue to stay below average for much of the extended period, though they slowly warm.  Chilly northwesterly winds in the wake of the storm keep clouds over us with a few rain and snow showers Tuesday and Wednesday.  Thursday, a little bit more by way of sun returns, but a shower cannot be ruled out completely.  Highs are in the 40s through Thursday.  Friday sunshine prevails with highs near 50 degrees.  With the exception of a possible shower Saturday, the Easter weekend looks dry, with some sunshine in store.  Highs reach the lower 50s.

Have a great week!
