West Hempfield – An investigation is underway into why a 19-year-old is dead, after being found alongside a road in Lancaster County Monday night.  Kevin Chavez, Landisville, was pronounced dead at Lancaster General Hospital.  West Hempfield Police say Chavez was found along the 1500 block of Silver Spring Road, around 100 yards from his car.

Kevin’s oldest sister, Cecilia Bianco says, “It’s heartbreaking you wake up, it’s a nightmare and you’ll come out of it and it’s not real, it’s awful.”

Bianco says she wants justice to be served in the aftermath of her brother’s death.  She says, “He was just great you know.  I have a son and daughter and they love their Uncle Kevin.”

Police in West Hempfield Township say Chavez was found with head trauma on Silver Spring Road around 9:00 Monday night.

Kevin’s sister, Rachel Chavez says, “He didn’t come home after class and he always comes home right away.  Then me and my mom drove around to look for him in Millersville because he wasn’t answering his phone.”

But it wasn’t until around midnight when Rachel, Cecilia and their three other siblings learned their youngest brother wouldn’t be returning home.  Many questions are still left unanswered surrounding the Millersville College student’s death.   Police say the cause is undetermined and officials can’t confirm a hit or run.

West Hempfield Police Chief Mark Pugliese says, “I would say this is odd and unusual.  We’re going with what evidence we have have [sic] and conditions of the body.”

Kevin is a 2011 graduate of Hempfield High School.  The superintendent says the district is saddened by the loss as they keep Kevin in their prayers.
