YORK, PA-  For tax filers, it’s crunch time, and that means many services, including Liberty Tax Service in York, are staying open later.

Liberty Tax will be open until midnight on Monday to help last-minute customers.

“It’s best to get it in, go ahead and file an extension,” if you won’t have your return done on time, says tax preparer Tennelle Collins. “Call and set up and installation plan.”

If you owe money and don’t file on time, the IRS will charge interest, she says.

The service charges by the document. They say some refunds have been help up by auditing this year. The IRS has particularly focused auditing on those filing for the Earned Income Tax Credit.

“It slows it down a lot,” says Collins. “Usually you get it in 7 to 21 days, but more when you get audited. You have to wait 6 to 8 weeks to get your money back.”

“There was a lot more auditing going on, for people who were claiming grandchildren or nieces or nephews, something like that,” says manager Sarah Malek. “We’ve had quite a few audits.”

The Main Post Office on Crooked Hill Road in Harrisburg, will be accepting returns until 11:59 pm Monday night.
