Around 50 runners took part in a two-mile run across Harrisburg’s Harvey Taylor Bridge Monday in a show of support for Boston.

The Bridge Run for Boston was organized by Adrienne Mitford of Harrisburg.

“I found out that nobody else was doing something and I posted it on Facebook and I thought worst case, I’d be the one running across the river and back across the Harvey Taylor Bridge and if more people showed up, that would be great,” Mitford said.

It’s a part of #BostonStrong, a nationwide movement of runners to show support for the city of Boston and the victims of the marathon bombing.

The runners included several people who experienced the terror in Boston firsthand.

Gary Verano of Harrisburg was waiting at the finish line for his wife.

“The bomb went off, just over my left shoulder,” he said. “The glass was coming down and very shortly after that, the second explosion happened down the block.”

With each step they took over the Harvey Taylor bridge and back, Verano and others hoped to show Boston that Harrisburg hasn’t forgotten.

“People were very kind to us, offered us subway passes, money, food,” Verano said. “And really this is just to support the people in Boston.”

Runner Rebecca Kover of Harrisburg was close to finishing the Boston Marathon when she heard the first explosion. She said she would love to qualify again and finish the race.

“I will go back to support the city, support the marathon, hopefully if I can get there,” she said.

#BostonStrong runs have taken place all across the country. The movement started on Twitter and took off from there.
