A nighttime repair and micro-surfacing project on nearly 19 miles of Interstate 81 in the Carlisle area and western Cumberland County resumes on Monday night, April 29. The construction project began last August and was suspended in the fall with the onset of cold weather. The overall project limits extend from Exit 37 (Route 233/Newville) in Penn Township to Exit 48 (Route 74/York Street) in South Middleton Township.

Motorists are advised they may encounter single-lane traffic restrictions in the vicinity of the construction work on weeknights and also weekends between 8 p.m. and 6 o’clock the following morning. This portion of I-81 averages between 40,800 to 68,650 vehicles a day, with heavy trucks accounting for approximately 25% of this traffic. Motorists are asked to be alert to this nighttime operation and to slow down when approaching and traveling through the work zone.
