34 year old NBA center, Jason Collins, told Sports Illustrated “I’m black. And I’m gay.”  He says he didn’t set out to be the first openly gay athlete playing in a major American team sport, but is happy to start the conversation.

Collins says the 2011 NBA player lockout broke his routine and forced him to confront who he really is and what he really wants.  Collins is a free agent.  He played with the Celtics and Wizards during his 12th season.
