Lancaster County leaders want people to know that the Strasburg Rail Road is more than just a tourist attraction.
State Senator Lloyd Smucker, R-13th District and Rep. Bryan Cutler, R-100th District, hosted other lawmakers and public officials on a train ride and tour of the railroad Thursday morning.
Besides tourism, the railroad is also involved in other growing business ventures.
“Most people have no clue of the depth of our organization,” said Linn Moedinger, Strasburg Rail Road president and chief mechanical engineer. “Additionally, we rebuild, repair and actually manufacture old passenger cars and steam locomotives. Our freight business has increased substantially.”
In the past three years, the railroad has undergone a number of improvements to meet growing demand, and more are planned for the future.
