It’s two years away and counting.   Lancaster Country Club continues to prepare for the upcoming U.S. Women’s Open in 2015.    On Tuesday, 10-time major champion Annika Sorenstam visited the club to meet sponsors and media.   Arguably the greatest women’s player in history, Sorenstam played 18 holes and came away very impressed.

“I thought it was a very nice golf course,” she said.  “I like the design, I like the variety here.  It’s a true test from tee to green.”   Sorenstam helped to unveil the event’s logo along with USGA Executive Director Mike Davis.   Davis is a Chambersburg native and also praised the traditional layout at LCC.

“Pennsylvania has actually hosted more national championships since 1895 than any other state but this particular club and golf course has never had one,”  Davis explained.  “Growing up here I always wanted to see this happen and I am absolutely delighted that it is going to.”

Approximately 2,500 volunteers will be needed to help run the event in the Summer of 2015.
