Arrests made in car break-ins in Susquehanna Township

Susquehanna Township Police have arrested three men for breaking into cars and stealing items from them. Police were called to the 600 block of Glenbrook Drive early this morning for a report of cars being broken into in the neighborhood. A resident saw three males open his neighbor’s unlocked car and then run away. Although police did not immediately see the suspects in the area, they did notice a a vehicle parked in an odd position nearby. They staked out the vehicle for about two hours before three males matching the description of the suspects return to the car. Officers stopped the suspects and found them in possession of several stolen items. The suspects admitted to entering cars and led police to stolen items that had been hidden in the woods nearby, including the stolen handgun, a laptop computer, a Kindle, a suitcase with clothes, an Ipad, jewelry, and other items.

The suspects were identified as:

Steven Bekelja, 18, of 200 block of Buckley Drive, Harrisburg

Matthew Shaffer, 21, of 2300 block of Fishing Creek Valley Road, Harrisburg

Aqib Kahn, 18, of the 4600 block of Tarryton Road, Harrisburg

All three were charged with 14 counts of Theft from a Motor Vehicle, Criminal Conspiracy, and Theft by Unlawful Taking-Firearm.  They were transported to the Dauphin County Central Booking to await arraignment.
