The Humane League of Lancaster County needs your help, after rescuing dozens of animals living in a SUV with their owner.
On Monday, May 20, 2013, 23 cats and one dog were brought to the Humane League of Lancaster County by a woman who had recently lost her home and is currently living in her SUV. Inside the SUV, 23 cats varying in color, size, age, and in need of medical attention, waited in crates without food or water. “There were about four or five cats in each of the dog crates, there were about 12 to 15 cat carriers, and those had two cats in each of those so if you can imagine all of those crates and carriers in a standard SUV,” said Mary Wallick with the Humane League of Lancaster County. “Being transported and spending a majority of their times in these carriers, things get dirty pretty quickly.”
The driver signed over the animals to the Humane League. “We are really glad that she made the decision to sign them over to us so they can have a chance at a better life,” said Wallick.
The health conditions vary from dehydration to cases of upper respiratory infections and eye infections.
“When all of their medical needs are addressed, they will be made available for adoption,” said Wallick. Some of the cats could be available within a week.
The Humane League of Lancaster County was already at capacity before taking in these animals. Because of all of the animals health needs they Humane League is looking for donations. “It puts a strain on our facility and the supplies we have because we weren’t anticipating an addition of 23 cats to our cat facility, so if people would like to make a donation or even just cat supplies. We’re always in need of that,” said Wallick.
