A local fire department beat today’s heat with a delicious treat.

The Hummelstown Volunteer Fire Department used leftover ice cream from its annual carnival to treat the people it serves.

Sundaes, milkshakes, and ice cream cones were on the meny for everyone who wanted to cool off this evening.

The department runs solely on support from the community.

Firefighters say the outreach has been tremendous.

“Well it means a lot of shows that the people respect what we do for being a volunteer fire department, they go through and they’re here to help us keep our doors open because they know that we provide such a good service to the community and we’re just always out here to help and if its serving ice cream,” says Rich Fanning, the Assistant Fire Chief.

This was just one of the fundraisers the department holds each month.
